Martin Beck Nworah Saturday, October 29, 2016 1

In 2004, I read a poem titled "The nothing people". The poem talked about individuals who are neither good nor bad. They won't support you or criticise you, they will simply watch silently while you burn. In my life encounters, I have met these people from different walks of life and in their opinion, taking no stand is the perfect stand.

I don't know why some of us decide to adopt this outlook on life. They will silently watch you sweat your way to the top and when you get there, they will appear to tell the world that they had always stood by you all through your trying times. When people castigate and say stuffs you didn't do, they will keep mute because they don't want to be associated with you. But once you're proven innocent through the efforts and fights of others, they will emerge from their holes and start praising you.

These nothing people constitute a greater part of our society and many of us feel it's the right thing to be. The nothing people won't give you advise because you may become better than them. When you make mistakes, they will blow it out of proportion and even manipulate facts to make sure they bring you down. But when you rise above them and call their bluffs, you become the bad and devilish person.

Today, I dare you to take a stand. Decide where your loyalty in issues lie and let the world know it. For instance, I have always stated that I will vote for Obiano in 2017 even though I don't support or take a liking for his leadership style and policies. I criticise him whenever I get the opportunity but I will still vote for him. This decision to vote for him will change the very minute I see a better candidate who can give us a better leadership in this state.

My name is Martin Beck Nworah and I am not a nothing person. When I stand by you, I make it known to the world. For those who look, hide and wait for opportunities to remain sycophants, I wish you well.

Till we get to the Promised Land, I shall be waiting for when you will pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift of grace for the race.
